Staff Report
Friday morning, the seniors celebrate their success at Class Day. Friday afternoon, everyone gets a chance to celebrate.
Reynolds’ annual fundraiser – and fun-raiser – comes in the form of a “Spring Fling” this year. Students will be released at 2:40 and spend the last hour of the school day walking the grounds around the landing and arts building. Eighteen groups will provide everything from entertainment to tasty treats. The lineup includes:
- a karaoke station by A Cappella near the front of the auditorium, a performance space for writers and rappers with the Creative Writing Club outside the arts building, and the Freshman Flash Mob and RJR Steps Club near the hill facing Hawthorne Road (outside Room 109)
- food ranging from bratwurst by the German Club to crepes by the French Club to popcorn from Film Society, plus sweet treats from SGSC, the Dancing Boots, Anime Club and others
- a dunking booth – no word yet on the brave souls who will be on the hot seat! – from GC across from the landing
- cornhole boards and cotton candy from the Key Club between the arts building and auditorium
- doughnuts and henna tattoos from the Feminist Club
- cookies and daisies from RGC that can be sent to friends with a special message
- a demonstration area by the Fencing Club and spot for foam noodle “fencing” across from the landing, plus chips and drinks for sale
- and an area to show off your creative side with sidewalk chalk by the RASCals on the driveway leading up from Hawthorne Road
Students are encouraged to bring a little money to the event to sample the great food and support RJR’s clubs in this annual fundraiser, which sometimes happens in the spring and sometimes takes place as “Oktoberfest.” The event also can help students learn a little more about clubs they might want to join next year.
Teachers, administrators and additional police officers will be on hand during this hour to ensure students have fun and don’t leave campus early. Parents may not pull up along Hawthorne Road to pick up students before the bell rings at 3:40 to dismiss for the three-day weekend.
Friday’s schedule will be adjusted a great deal, but the day remains a required school day and attendance will be taken. The schedule is as follows:
- 1B: 8:55-9:30
- 9:30: Students report to homeroom, then go to assembly. Freshmen remain in homerooms (hint: bring makeup work to do, books to read, peruse your Pine Whispers or Black & Gold — rock the free time!)
- 3B: NORMAL 12-2:05 schedule for class and lunches; may be adjusted slightly if Class Day runs short or long
- 4B: 2:10-2:40
- 2:40-3:40: Spring Fling
