The Reynolds High School music department will be going out with a bang this week as chorus, band and orchestra each will perform their end-of-year concerts.
Chorus gets started on Tuesday (May 21), followed by the concert band Wednesday and orchestra Thursday. All three events begin at 7 p.m. at the Reynolds Auditorium. Admission to all three is $5 per person, with kids 12 and under admitted free.
Each of these groups has spent weeks trying to get together a good group of music to perform, learn the music, and get all the final details such as seating and outfits together. Since band and chorus all have different groups that come together for this concert, the directors must make sure everyone is on the same page.
Chorus is divided into three different groups — concert choir, a cappella and the treble choir — and band is divided into concert band and wind ensemble.
“We all perform together and we all have our own little things we are doing during the concert,” said sophomore chorus and orchestra member Hannah Yarrison.
This year, only the orchestra has labeled its concert. Thursday’s theme will be “Night of Stars” and feature songs from popular book-to-movie hits “Harry Potter” and “Lord of the Rings.”
Chorus will be performing 10 to 15 songs in Tuesday’s concert, but there is no theme to either its show or the band’s concert.
“It’s basically just a bunch of songs that sound good together,” band director Derrick James said. “We normally just call it ‘Sounds of Spring.’ ”
