Indiana Apartment Tenant Discovers Unknown Creature Living Inside His Walls, Pest Control Cannot Identify It

Reddit user Idrakeanddrive, an office lady working with the apartment’s management and pest control team, took the tenant’s photo and posted it to r/whatisit after no one on site could identify the creature. The response from the Reddit community was massive, but not exactly helpful in narrowing things down.
“We cannot figure out what this is. Doesn’t really look like a raccoon, opossum, or a squirrel,” Idrakeanddrive wrote in the post. “They think it looks like a bunny or something.” Neighboring tenants have not reported any missing pets, making the creature’s identity even harder to pin down.

Redditors Demanded the Wall Be Torn Open Immediately
The comment section quickly filled with users demanding action. Many called for the wall to be torn out entirely to free whatever animal was trapped inside.
“I mean get it out of the wall. No matter what it is it needs to come out. Leaving it in there will only prolong the suffering if it’s alive,” wrote one commenter. Idrakeanddrive was quick to remind everyone that she is just an office lady and it is not her job to enter tenants’ homes and start demolishing walls.
One user could not hide their distress after realizing the creature was still moving: “Oh gosh so the poor thing is still alive! The whiskers make it seem like a cat, but could be a raccoon too. Maybe the resident can put out some food and water for it.”
Creature Disappeared Before Pest Control Could Reach It
The most unsettling detail of the entire situation is that the animal vanished by the time pest control arrived. The tenant reported that he had heard the creature fall before managing to snap the photograph, but it apparently recovered and moved on before anyone could get a proper look.
In a follow up update, Idrakeanddrive revealed things had gotten even stranger. The tenant said he could now hear the animal moving above him, likely crawling between floors. Neighbors in surrounding units also reported hearing it moving around near their bathtubs and under their floors.
Maintenance Team Preparing to Cut Holes in the Ceiling
With pest control unable to locate the creature and the animal continuing to move freely through the building’s walls and floors, the situation is escalating. “My maintenance team will have to start cutting holes in the ceiling if nothing else happens soon,” Idrakeanddrive wrote, suggesting the search is far from over.
As for what the creature actually is, Reddit users threw out guesses ranging from a seal or otter to various other whiskered mammals. Hundreds agreed with one commenter who noted the photo looks like something a person might see during a stroke, which gives some idea of just how unclear and unsettling the image really is.
