On Thursday, April 30, Reynolds will be having its spring dance concert. This concert will consist of different types of dances accompanied with music by the band Queen.
“The show is called, ‘The show must go on: A tribute to Queen,’ ” dance teacher Caitie Reece said. “The show is telling the story of the process of what it’s like putting on a show. A show within a show.”
“This is my first dance concert at Reynolds and I’m excited,” sophomore Olivia Crowell said.
In the concert, choreography by Reece, Amelia Hailey, Brandon Woods and some Reynolds dance students will be featured, giving the concert many different styles of dance. The show opens at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the Reynolds Auditorium door.
“Mrs. Hailey and I are coordinating 250-plus dancers, lights, music and costuming for all 250 dancers at one time to pull off a successful performance. We are very fortunate to have the help of our seasoned dance students. We always have two student directors to help manage smaller tasks that must be completed to run a successful show,” Reece said. “We also call on junior and senior dancers to be class leaders for various tasks throughout the rehearsal and show process.”
“I’m really excited about the spring concert this year because the theme is Queen, or music by Queen, so really fun songs like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Under Pressure’ are in the concert,” senior Delaney Scott said. “It’s just going to be really great dancing and great music.”
As a result of Reynolds’ multiple dance class options, many different styles of dance will be showcased during the performance. A couple of these include jazz, ballet and an advanced class. Many students at Reynolds take multiple dance classes.
“I take more than one dance class at Reynolds and it’s a lot of fun but it can be stressful sometimes,” Scott said. “Especially during the concert when I have to do costume changes and remember all of the different dances.”
For some people, the dance concert is something totally different because they have never danced before. However, for others, dance concerts are just routine events.
“Dance concerts at Reynolds are so fun and different, they allow you to meet new people and to learn dances in a different and fun way, giving you the opportunity to meet new people and have some physical activity during the day,” freshman Bea Howell said.
