Every December as the year comes to an end and students anxiously await winter break, there is a special performance that encourages the holiday spirit: the Reynolds Holiday Showcase.
Many of the school’s artistic groups will take part in the show on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. The Showcase includes performances from A Cappella, dance, band and theater departments. The program is designed to get everyone in the holiday spirit as they leave Reynolds for the remainder of the calendar year.
Before the performance in the auditorium, the first floor of the main building will be open for all to enjoy the winter courtyard scenes. From 5 to 5:30, there will be a culinary arts and visual arts showcase. From 5:30 to 6:30, an info session in the media center will be held for families considering Reynolds as a high school option next year. Then comes the showcase from 7 to 8:30. This year, the performance will be free — a gift to the school and community from the arts department.
Sophomore Emily Graves is participating in the showcase as both a member of band and drama department.
“It’s very fun being involved in both band and theater,” said Graves, who has also had to double up on rehearsals in preparation of the showcase.
“We’ve been practicing very hard,” she said. “For theater, we rehearse all period, and the jazz band meets after school.”
The different arts groups are working hard to bring Reynolds an amazing show.
“A Cappella loves to collaborate with the dance, band and theater departments,” sophomore A Cappella member Celia Karahalios said. “I know the show is going to be great.”
The winter performance is a way to bring the arts programs together and the Reynolds community. Students are encouraged to support Reynolds’ talented artists by attending.
“Students should definitely look forward to the theater performances,” Graves said. “They were written by the students and are very funny. Jazz band and A Cappella will be doing fun pieces to get people in festive spirits.”
“I am looking forward to going to see the (showcase),” sophomore Ethan Baca said. “I know it will be an awesome show.”
