The second annual fall festival of bands will be held in Reynolds Auditorium tonight at 7. This year, the concert will be a wind ensemble that will bring three schools and two special musical guest together.
The wind ensembles from West Forsyth and Davie County High School will perform along with the Reynolds band for a night to remember. Reynolds director of bands Derrick James said RJR wants to share the auditorium with as many people as it can, which is why this event has become an annual tradition. They also plan on always bringing in one school from outside the county and one from inside the county.
This night is sure to be full of talent. There will be two guest artists: Dr. Mike Sailors and Dr. Nathan Daughtrey. Sailers is a solo trumpeter based in New York City who has appeared in the city’s best jazz venues like Smoke, Fat Cat and more.
Daughtry is a renowned musician who has given classes and performed all across the United States and three continents. Daughtry has also recorded two solo marimba albums and won second and third place in the Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest with his percussion ensemble works.
Talent is not just coming from outside the county: Jim Kirkpatrick, the director of bands at West Forsyth, has won multiple awards and received national recognition by the Grammy Foundation in 2013 by being selected as a quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator of the Year award.
“Should be a heck of a good program,” James said.
