Prime Day 2026 Shopping Gains Momentum as Yahoo Experts Flag the Best Categories to Buy and Warn Against Weak Discounts Through June 26

NEW YORK, NY — Amazon Prime Day 2026 is underway, and Yahoo Shopping editors say the event can be useful for buyers who know what to look for. The four-day sale runs through June 26, but not every markdown is worth grabbing.

Editors say shoppers should focus on items they already need, compare prices carefully and avoid assuming every listing is a true bargain.

Experts say the strongest Prime Day discounts are on Amazon devices, tech and home essentials

Retail experts quoted by Yahoo said the steepest price cuts usually show up in categories where Amazon has more control, especially its own devices. That includes Echo, Kindle, Fire, Ring and Amazon Basics products.

Shopping experts also pointed to laptops, tablets, headphones, smart home gear, beauty products and household essentials such as detergent and paper goods as areas where real savings are more likely.

According to Yahoo Shopping, some of the early standout deals included a Shark UltraCyclone system for $100, a Dash My Mug ice cream maker for $30, Sinophant leggings for $8 and an Amazon Fire TV Stick HD for $16.

Editors advise waiting on some seasonal and big-ticket items until later sales

Not everything is best bought during Prime Day. Yahoo’s experts said summer clothing and school supplies may get better pricing later in their seasonal cycles.

They also said shoppers may want to wait on mattresses, large appliances, patio furniture, grills and TVs, since those categories often see stronger discounts around July 4, Labor Day or Black Friday.

The guidance was simple: if the item is needed now and the Prime Day price is strong, buy it. If it can wait, there may be a better sale ahead.

Yahoo says selective shopping matters as much as finding a deal

Stephanie Carls, a retail insights expert at RetailMeNot, said shoppers should decide what they want before buying so they can recognize which discounts are real. Trae Bodge, a shopping expert at truetrae.com, said people should not trust every posted price at face value.

Both experts urged restraint, saying the goal is to save money, not fill carts with items that were never on the list.

Some of Yahoo’s highlighted deals include earbuds, a MacBook Air and home and beauty picks

Among the products Yahoo editors highlighted were Apple AirPods Pro 3, a MacBook Air with the M5 chip, a latest-model Amazon streaming stick and a top-selling iPad. The roundup also included home items such as a plush bath mat, slide-out storage shelves, silicone oven mitts and a nonstick skillet.

Beauty deals included Crest Whitestrips, a serum endorsed by Jane Fonda, a Revlon styling brush and exfoliating toner pads. Yahoo said Prime members get free shipping, while nonmembers can still qualify for free shipping on orders of $35 or more.
