The RJ Reynolds JV field hockey team played a well rounded game against Summit Friday, August 30. The JV field hockey team has been working hard to improve their gameplay in order to have more success in their games. Although the Demons took a loss, Nicole Roberts, the assistant coach had a lot of positive things to say about her team.

“I thought the girls played well,” said Roberts. “It was a hot day and we only had two subs, but I thought the effort was there the whole game. There were a few fast break situations and the defense was able to work together to stop them.”

The game began at 4:00 and the girls never seemed to give up. Their strong defense helped achieve their goal of not letting Summit score multiple times. Throughout the whole game they contributed their strongest efforts and skill to leave it all on the field. Captain Helen Crowley sets this example on and off the field.

“We are great at giving effort all the way through,” said Crowley. “If it’s in practice or a game, no matter the score, everyone is always giving it their best!”

Crowley serves as a communicator and role model for the girls on the team along with Coach Roberts. Going into the next half of the season the girls are going to zero in on improving what they talk about during practice and applying that to the field during games.
