The RJ Reynolds Demons field hockey team dominated the field Thursday night.They played the Northwest Guilford Whirlies at 6:30. Many of the girls are returning, seniors, juniors and sophomores who are paving the way for incoming players. 

Senior Bess Broughton scored the first goal with an assist by senior, Lynn Klutz. The Demons fought hard throughout the half entering half time with a 1-0 lead. The bleachers were full of parents, family members, friends and JV players cheering the team on. 

Defending the Demons’ goal throughout the second half was freshman Hillary Dunn, who is new to playing goalie. With the help of her teammates, she persevered, letting no goals in for the duration of the half. 

Senior Winborne Broughton, a three year varsity player, scored at the beginning of the second half with an assist from junior Anne Foster. 

The Demons kept possession for the majority of the second half. Senior Mary Cathryn Wolfert stole the ball and scored with 12 and a half minutes left in the game. RJR continued to pass and communicate successfully, ending the game 3-0. 

“Our greatest strengths are that we know how to pass very well, we played our strengths, which are going up the sidelines and scoring goals,” Coach Mckenzie said following the game. “I’m most looking forward to us having a great season and winning all of our games.”
