The RJ Reynolds women’s tennis team dominated the court Wednesday night against Davie. After a strong start to their 2019 season, the Demons took home another victory Wednesday, September 18.

The girls work really well together demonstrating great teamwork and a passion for tennis.

“This is a great bunch of girls,” said Coach Johnny Highsmith. “They have great personalities, they get along well, and they have great teamwork. For the most part they work pretty hard. These girls love tennis and that’s what I love so that’s why it’s a good fit, and I just enjoy being around kids because I’m really not very mature.”

Only two of the top six are returning from last season so that gives more players an opportunity to play and improve.

Junior Audrey Nelson has been able to positively impact her team this season.

“Last season I wasn’t even paying top 6 so I would say thats an improvement and just overall my serve is the one thing that has improved the most I would say.” said Nelson.

Ellie Cameron, a new addition to the tennis team came all the way from Idaho and highlights the changes between her tennis seasons.

“One of the main differences was that we played co-ed,” said Cameron. “Boys and girls played the same season, we had mixed doubles and that was just a totally different dynamic.”

As the season continues they hope to have many more wins and improve as a team.
