Recently one of the most popular social media apps has gotten a lot of negative backlash after a new update. Snapchat, one of the most used social media apps, especially at RJR has recently updated its layout and the people are not happy.
We asked for a few things, the most popular being bring back the public best friends list but instead we got a so simple it’s complicated, ugly, unorganized update. Snapchat was just fine before the update, it seems as if Snapchat said “how can we make this app the worst?” and did just that.
Below will be a list of pros and cons of the update, we’ll start with the cons.
Stories are unorganized and are in the same place as your friends/recently snapped list.
It is so easy to send a snap to the wrong person.
It is easy to forget about certain streaks because if someone posts a story they’re name, even if you haven’t snapped them will be at the top.
Popular people that you have added do not appear in your friends list anymore. Instead they have their own section with the subscription snapchat stories.
Checking the views of your story is a hassle, you have to swipe down and look instead of it being on the “stories page.”
Everything looks so unorganized and cluttered.
You can see everyone’s bitmoji, if they have one.
Obviously the bad outweighs the good here. There was a petition to get Snapchat to change the layout back and it was signed by 1.2 million people. People even took to the app store to give it one star review to prove a point to Snapchat. Our efforts did not work, as Snapchat confirmed that the design is here to stay. When social media star, Kylie Jenner tweeted “sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me… ugh this is so sad,” the company allegedly lost $1.3 billion in market value; a sad thing indeed.
The Snapchat update has caused more bad than good, but regardless of the update the one thing we can all say universally is; “gn streaks.”
