Fleet’s Good News

Fleet Wilson, Editor in Chief

It has been a tough month.

I have watched my news feed devolve into a constant cycle of natural disasters paired with the threat of thermonuclear fallout, Trump scandal with a hint of violent Nazi rally, and immigrant panic with a lil’ Russian interference to top it all off. The news brings an unmatched combination of existential disparity, vile abhorrence and numbing depression to it’s hopeless consumers. Every day, the news punches us in the gut and each day we come right back up to the counter for more.

It does not have to be like this. The world is not this sad. And while staying up to date on the current state of affairs is necessary to maintain a diligent populace, that doesn’t mean we have to drown in sorrow in the name of being “well informed.” I see it worthwhile to shed to some light to the wonders of everyday life that don’t make the daily newsfeed. So buckle up, and escape the doldrums of modern journalism with the first edition of Fleet’s Good News.

To start the good news cycle, we have breaking news, penguins are back. And when I say back, I mean they are back in a BIG way. Afteran underwhelming population performance, in the 20th century, penguins have officially rebounded, and recent research shows that they have doubled their estimated population growth. Scientists expected East Antarctic Adelie penguins to number around 3 million, but being the sleeper team that they are, they are now projected in the 6 million range. This is excellent news for Happy Feet and Pittsburgh hockey fans alike.

Next up, we have elephants wearing sweaters. (Note: that previous sentence was the peak of my journalistic career). This past winter, villagers in Mathura, India noticed that their 5-ton friends looked a little chilly. As any sane person would do, these locals dedicated themselves to knitting them giant sweaters to avoid the cold. Each sweater takes four weeks to make, warming the elephant and the hearts of everyone who just read this story.
