Tech Update: iOS 11

It seems as though technology is continually evolving and improving every day. We have the luxury of computers, tablets, and most importantly, our smartphones. The raging popularity of the iPhone invented by Apple has not gone unnoticed, CNN reports that Apple has received 33.2 billion dollars in revenue for the iPhone 7 alone. With the major responsibility of constantly having to come up with something new, Apple is launching the all new iOS 11 on September 13, with multiple new features that have a lot of people talking.

First and foremost, there is a new update to iMessage, Apple’s default messaging app. The Apple pay app is merging with the iMessage so you can make direct payments while you’re texting. In addition to this exciting feature, Apple is also coming out with a “Car Play mode”. If you set your phone in this mode, you can drive without getting notifications that could be potentially distracting. If someone texts you while your phone is set in this mode, it will automatically send a text telling that person that you will contact them once you’re done driving.

The features don’t stop there! Apple’s App Store is taking on some new and exciting changes. The revamped App Store will have new highlighted tabs to mark curated collections that are created by Apple, and not the developers of the apps.

Additionally, augmented reality is coming to the cameras of those with iOS 11. The new update introduces ARKit, which allows your iPhone or iPad camera to blend digital objects and information with the environment around you, according to Apple. “Developers have built everything from virtual tape measures to ballerinas made out of wood dancing on floors. It’s absolutely incredible what people are doing in so little time” says Apple executive Greg Joswiak.

With only days left until the launch of the new update, many have no idea what’s in store. “Honestly I don’t really pay attention to the updates, I haven’t heard anything about it” says Ruthie Strausser. The element of surprise will work in favor of Apple, as many do not know exactly what the new iOS update has to offer. With all of the exciting features, the new update is sure to be a hit!
