Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the continental United States on August 25, 2017,  unleashing its wrath, wrecking anything and everything in its path.

“Because the hurricane started over a warm pocket of ocean, it was able to develop into an extreme hurricane,” RJR explained senior Aaron Weinberg.

As of today, Hurricane Harvey has dumped over 20 trillion gallons of water onto the distressed area it whirls over. Cedar Bayou, a city just south of Houston has received over 52 inches of rainfall since the arrival of the hurricane which is the most rainfall ever recorded in US history. The destruction from this hurricane has now caused more costly problems than the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina.

“I don’t believe that the hurricane will slow down our economic growth, but it will be extremely costly to clean up,” said RJR senior Campbell Turner.

It is estimated that Texas alone will need over 125 billion dollars of federal relief money to rebuild what has been wrecked. So far, estimates say that 13 million people have been directly affected by the storm and over 30 thousand homes have been destroyed due to water and wind damage.

People are in desperate need of help. As of today, over 32 thousand people across Texas are in shelters. Hurricane Harvey has forced 30 thousand people out of there homes. Unfortunately, there have been 31 recorded deaths due to the storms relentless winds and rain. Federal forces have kept busy making over 100 thousand rescues thus far.

Supplies are now being sent by tractor trailers. Shelters have received over 80 tractor trailers worth of cots, blankets, ready-to-eat meals, kitchen materials and other important necessities.

As Harvey continues to wreak havoc, it is important that everyone helps out. Donations of money or supplies would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind, there are many ways to help and there is always something each of us can do.
