With the new Star Wars trilogy beginning, what do we expect from the franchise? What do we want?
I am a purist. I believe that the closest we can keep it to the original trilogy and that style of film making the better. I am among those who believe that the changes George Lucas, producer of the movies and founder of Lucasfilms, made to the originals post-release was a huge mistake.
The added CGI (Computer generated images) were a complete failure and only hurt the plot and integrity of the movies. I understand that there is no getting around this method of movie making this go around, as that is how the market is oriented now. All I hope is that we will get better.
When I was younger, Star Wars and fantasies that go with it dominated my imagination. My brother and I were always pretending to be Jedi, fighting to right some wrong in the galaxy (I was always the master of course).
This franchise has such a powerful effect on most people that come into contact with it. This is one huge reason why I am excited about it returning and being reborn for another generation.
Star Wars is being made relevant once again. This makes me happy to know that I will be able to have fun with Star Wars with my younger cousin as he grows up, like my father could with me.
The universe that Star Wars can bring you into is chock full of so many things that you can bring to life and enjoy.
Another reason the new movie is so exciting is because no one knows what will happen. At least with the prequel trilogy you knew who was going in what direction and what their general fate would be.
With the new movie, cloudy the future is. No one knows what could possibly come out of it, which only adds to the hype and suspense.
Of course, things could always go the other way. As the prequels were disappointing in comparison to the original trilogy, so could episodes VII-IX.
I prefer to believe they will be amazing, as the recent trailers have given me no reason to believe otherwise.
When the movie comes out on December 18, you can trust that I will be one of the first in line for the movie, because I am really excited.
Whether or not it will be worth the money, a new movie in the saga is only an enthralling idea that could not have made me happier when it was announced.
Star Wars will continue to be one of my fondest memories, even as it continues to expand.
