Valentine’s Day is here. Young love flourishes from every corner. Elementary-schoolers decorate shoe boxes and pass out Spider-Man cards with various kinds of candy to their classmates.
If you’re lucky enough to have a significant other, chances are you look forward to this day. Maybe you’ll go to dinner, or you might just go for a walk. Valentine’s Day is a day for showing someone just how much you care about them – often by spending money.
But what if you aren’t dating anyone? Put some sweat pants on, watch Netflix, eat some comfort food, and relax the next 24 hours. You’re going to be fine. You can make it through this.
Some people seriously frown upon the idea of being single on Valentine’s Day. Why is that? What is it that’s so great that you’re missing out on? If you’re single, you’re the lucky one. You can breathe easy knowing that your wallet won’t be getting any lighter today. Take a moment to recognize the fact that you aren’t tied down to something that will probably end in hurt feelings and misunderstandings.
Relax, friend! You’ve got nothing to be ashamed of.
Relationships are complicated. There are all these rules you have to follow and it’s so easy to get hung up on them.
I have a friend who is one of those people who always has to be in a relationship.
It drives me crazy.
Not because of jealousy, but because it’s annoying. He’s always complaining about it as if he doesn’t have a choice. It makes relationships sound so miserable and depressing.
Valentine’s Day happens to fall on a Saturday this year, so why not enjoy your free time? Hang out with your other friends who are single. Instead of feeling like you’re missing out on something, look at Valentine’s Day and be happy that you don’t have to impress anyone today.
Look at those couples and realize that they will probably be single in a matter of months. You know someone’s going to mess something up. It’s not like you need a partner in order have fun on Valentine’s Day.
Relationships seem so overrated at our age. It isn’t a life-long commitment. It’s so ridiculous how some people say goodbye like they’re never going to see each other again. Relationships can even be potentially dangerous. My friend is so “in love” with his girlfriend that he texts her while driving, even in the busiest of traffic.
How sweet.
Believe me, you aren’t going to be single your whole life (unless you want to be). If you want to, you’ll get married and live a happy life. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a boyfriend or girlfriend, just don’t take it too seriously – and don’t text and drive.
Regardless of how you spend your Valentine’s Day this year, be safe, be happy and make sure you can afford it.
