With five weeks left until Key Club Follies, this year’s emcees aren’t holding anything back. They’ve already released a promo for the annual variety show held at the Reynolds Auditorium. The promo, which can be seen here, is a parody of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” music video. Seniors Brady Buchanan, Eric Royer, Thomas Edmundson, Cole Fuller and Andrés González worked with Gonzo Gills Films, a production company run by RJR senior Ben Cowgill, to make the video.
“Follies this year is going to be off the chain,” said Cowgill, the editing half of Gonzo Gills Films. “(The emcees) are definitely going the extra mile.”
Cowgill described the newly released video as a perfect fit for his editing style because it is a fast-paced action adventure.
“We basically built something out of nothing by taking an hour’s worth of film and finding tiny clips to fit together,” explained Cowgill, “and tried to reflect what the Beastie Boys did while adding our own touch .. .and incorporating Winston-Salem.”
Cowgill expressed satisfaction with the final product, only regretting the fact that some great ideas had to be benched to accelerate the production cycle.
“I think as a group, we’re happy with the promo. We just wanted to get the word out in a based and creative way,” Royer said, “and I think we’ve succeeded in that regard.”
